The MWM International LUF100430 rear main oil seal is of superior quality to current seals available (original style)
With the MWM International rear main oil seal, the seal lip runs in the correct place on the seal journal of the crankshaft and has additional dust sealing. Gasket ERR6811 is no longer required with this seal, simply use a high performance flexible sealant such as STC50550.
The MWM type of seal has proven in service, to be substantially more reliable by many trade and retail customers who have switched to this type of seal due to reliability issues of other seals currently available.
The original style is currently still available however we don't recommend nore warrant it so buyer be aware.
Handling and installing this seal:
DO NOT remove the plastic sleeve that is protecting the seal, this sleeve acts as a guide and provides a ramp for the seal to slide onto the crankshaft as well as protecting the special coating applied to the rubber.
Once the seal has been pushed on far enough (can be tapped on with a nylon/rubber mallet), the plastic guide will drop out.
DO NOT lubricate the seal or crankshaft, everything must be dry and very clean.
Use only the composite coated metal type gasket with the original style seal (gasket not required for the MWM seal)between the seal housing and block with correct grade sealant (STC50550 or Loctite BlackMaxx) If using STC50550, wait at least 24 hours prior to running engine, this is a slow cure sealant.
Use a couple of longer bolts of correct length to act as alignment guides either side of the seal housing, this helps the seal go on square and may also assist the seal to be drawn onto the crank if the bolts are progessively tightened, and continue tapping/pushing the seal on. Relying on the bolts only may crack the housing. It takes a fair amount of effort to get the seal to slide off the plastic ring onto the crank.
